But how much ore is being shipped from BHP & RIO to China & does this benefit any Australian (including any shareholders)? Does this war that BHP & RIO r fighting actually benefit 1 Australian? MacKenzie & Walsh r both based in London altho Walsh is Australian originally. Perhaps it benefits the shorters who r Australian. I was surprised when BHP & RIO didn;t make the list of ASX 100 most shorted stocks & then I realised that with stamp duty payable on UK securities but not in Australia, it would be more efficient for an insto to short in the UK market than the ASX (& more liquid) as buyers worried about transaction costs r more likely to be on ASX than LSE.
