Here is another point of view yellowcake.

What is it that makes you think that the Americans are so keen to see us poor little Aussie farmers released from the yoke of the single desk ?

Why is it that a nation that has practised economic imperialism across the world via its major corporations is suddenly so altruistic about bettering the lot of you and your farm.

Well, they aren't are they? you need to believe that to prop up theotherwisde ridiculous proposition that in a free market your prices are going to go up !

That hasn't even worked for the US themselves who are arguably developing as the biggest losers of lower and lower cost production in markets such as India and china.

Your arguement is even so thin that having argued that the AWB forces you to subsidise eastern state farmers who would be uncompetitive without its protection, when some old mate on the Murray river and his bridge club meet in a phone box to say they hate the tyrany of the wheat Board you welcome them aboard. Any port in a storm.

The US commodity groups hate the AWB with a passion - because IT IS SUCCESSFUL AT ACCESSING MARKETS despite the best SUBSIDISED efforts of US grain exporters.

Your familiar with the term divide and conquer. It made it into the lexicon of truisms for a reason.

same as "unity is strength" with the unions.

All's well while what you have is in demand but the rest of the time .......

All i can say yellowcake is "be careful what you wish for - you just might get it."

BTW thanks for the patronising point about working for the Wheat Board. many moons ago as previously discussed I had first hand experience of many aspects of the total grain marketing industry - that is - more than just growing the stuff such as yourself - though i did that also with 2000ha per annum of grain.

maybe I've simply been around a bit more /

I ho0pe it does actually work out the way you dream if (as is entirely possible) some moron in canberra pushes a buton in desperation to get themselves out of a short term political fix and destroys the major marketing advantage this country possesses.

love your example of New Zealand btw.
