Horizontal wells sound good but only if they give a higher return than 2 or 3 vertical wells. It quite obvious that ARQ management do not like horizontals after the Hovea well ( number 6? maybe) which is the only horizontal well ARQ have ever drilled. Wasn't a ripper either or that deep.
Drilling horizontal at more than 2.5km depth, not for me, big boys game. Ideally to be drilled into an enormous gas or oil field with known long term production history (look at SAE to get the idea).
I can only assume that Y structure is more than big enough to satisfy ARQ drilling criteria, as to how big, no idea.
