Geologically didn't the criteria look right for Cougar ? I am still not sure whether there was actual contamination and if so whether it originated from UCG , previous use of the land or farming . Nevertheless it was savaged by the polis and got closed down .
My post may have seemed backhanded but it was genuinely intended as a compliment . I just don't think Australia is the place ; even with the remoteness of parts of Queensland .
I wouldn't touch any company which was planning to use the old designs of oxidant flowing from one end of single horizontal bore/chamber to a receding flame wall at the other end - there would be so little control of void development .
Another poster pointed out that Linc have used the same parallel knife edge CRIP as Carbon Energy .
All these things are a trade off , the energy density is favourable compared with CSG and non-sweet spot areas of shale .
One could easily argue that it is better to risk subsidence and contamination in a 100 square km region of wilderness or change the nature of a 3,000 square km area with multi well pads every 4-10km connected by a pipeline network .
Linc and Carbon Energy are the only two UCG companies I would touch .
I investigated another which was listed in New York . Sino Coal and Coke .
They had no experience of UCG and were talking about implementing projects in less than 12 months .
I was bombarded with red flags with that one and concluded SCOK was a scam .
Maybe CNX are better off without the Chinese stealing all their I.P. Anyone think CNX will make progress overseas soon ?

Doubt it, given their recent financial downturn I'd be surprised if that continued prior to the green light from Q/Gov. It's a considerable amount of money they are looking at spending for Stage 3, if Q/Gov force the i's to be dotted and the t's to be crossed then that de-risks the project and likely addresses Political and Regional concerns.
