Lately I've been trading the big and mega caps more than usually, due to the spec end coming close to the toe tag, and it's been like learning to trade all over again in some instances. Example, I have seen the highs of ND bars taken out intraday and then the bar closes low and badly. Obv this is stop hunting and flipping out ST n momentum traders as you said, I guess nowadays when you are playing against insto controlled algos a lot at that end you sort of have to think a step ahead of the rules and expect that they will try and catch you out.
