I'll take it for granted that 'medium to long term' means many months to years.
It so, then I do the majority of my analysis for this timeframe using weekly charts (and some use of monthly charts at times when necessary), and I follow daily charts, for entries and exits, to look 'inside' an ambiguous weekly bar, and when a weekly bar is incomplete.
This doesn't mean what I do is the correct way, or what you should do for this timeframe, but it is what I do, and is what works for me.
I particularly like weekly charts, as they still have enough detail to gain a decent understanding, but are not so messy that the 'noise' confuses the analysis, which can happen sometimes with smaller timeframes.
Analysis is the same in any timeframe, but entries and exits are usually done in a slightly smaller timeframe (scroll up to a previous post for an Image of this).
