The dist centre seems to be of a sm size that could support 140 Aldi supermarkets, but the cost of the centre seems much higher than an equivalent Aldi DC. Does anybody know what Sq meterage of sales area, or how many stores could be serviced by the new DC. The article says there are 12 stores underway.

I saw that Romania has a DC half the size, and that Romanian sales were about E 2 bill in 2017, so such a DC might be able to handle over $7b AUD of sales, assuming success at a very rough stab?

I'm also surprised that Kaufland are not leasing more. $459m being spent on the DC. And they are buying sites rather than arranging leases. They seem very confident, but from what I can see - this is their first time outside Europe with Kaufland stores (unlike LIDL - which has been in the USA).

They sound like a cross between Big W / Kmart / Target and Safeway / Coles to me. They apparently have a focus on fresh food as part of that. Will be interesting to see if they inject further price competition into the Aussie market. I hope so.

The market doesn't seem fussed about the latest update to me all the same.
