The scale of activity at Gravelotte in its earlier heyday was quite impressive. Here's a picture of the sorting lines which gives an impression of the size of the operation:
The implementation of upgraded modern bulk mining methods and enhanced security technologies will see lower costs and higher yields in carats per tonne. Better recorded grades too, no doubt. Automation as, for example, in the form of optical sorting, may also be a possibility.
I believe the economics of the Gravelotte Project in modern guise look to be extremely robust.
