Construction has started on a multi-million dollar mine in the western region.
... The $80 million project was approved by the department of planning last year and will consist of one underground mine, a miners' camp and processing plant.
The managing director Rimas Kairaitas says while a funding agreement is being finalised work has started on the main underground tunnel.
... "Essentially we've signed an early works agreement and the underground mine construction has started and the project is almost underway." He says the first ore will be processed in 2014.
"The processing plant construction we anticipate starting in a month or so time. A lot of the project construction, the process plant construction happens off site and it's not until much later in the year where the process plant is actually assembled on the site."
