Hi Sierra, the fan I am using has a reverse action that allows me to change the fan direction for summer. Which is really handy. It also has a 6 speed remote control which gives you more control of the movement of air.
I run 3 types of fire wood, Eucalyptus Peppermint, She Oak (Casuarina) and Silver Wattle. I mainly use the peppermint for the base heat and on the real cold nights I throw a bit of the She Oak or the Silver Wattle on as I find it burns a lot hotter which gives you a better heat output. On these occasions I need to turn the fan up a notch in speed as the extra temp is lost to the upper level of the house.
One must be careful not to put too much of the Oak or Wattle on and leave the throttle open as I have had a situation where the fire box over heated and warped, leaving the twin opening bronze cast doors out of alignment and not sealing.
