A free standing wood heater is supposed to be about 8 x more efficient than an open fireplace.
I would imagine much of the heat from a built in wood heater would soak into the surrounding structure and bleed away through the floor and roof?
I've tried wood heaters with fans but much prefer a convection type without a fan. The heat still circulates but without any noise, draughts or power.
Mine's going today.
