Hmmm ... Win XP Pro was da man ! .. I avoided Vista and Win7 (saved MS's a........) .. Win8 terrible.
With XP support gone in 2014 I built a new super box and went Win8.1 Pro 64bit and Office 2013 SBE which will see for the next decade.
For mine .. Win8.1 is just bearable .. but I hate it .. a lot of the functionality has been stripped out of it and it is a pain to use.
From the blab .. Windows 10 will really be Win8.2 with a few tricks and IS BEING OFFERED FREE FOR WIN 7 & 8 !!
WHY FREE ??? something like 25-30% still running XP .. nilski Vista .. about 30% upgraded to Win7 .. bugger all to Win8 and a few to Win8.1.
MS is sooo hated that it has to give it's next offering for FREE just to get folks to migrate to it !!
WHAT'S THE CATCH and with MS there is ALWAYS A CATCH !!
Windows 10 once installed will be the LAST of Windows incarnations and users will HAVE TO ACCEPT upgrades .. the first major ugrade is scheduled for 2016 .. this will be to MS final ONE WINDOWS O/S simply called WINDOWS and Win10 users will not have the ability to DECLINE this upgrade !!
CATCH NO 2 !! "WINDOWS" WILL BE A SUBSCRIPTION ONLY "SERVICE" AND ANNUAL SUBS ($100-$150) and similar to subs model OFFICE 365.
And of course you will have to pay an additional $80-$90 pa for anti-virus protection.
Sooo .. MS is offering Win10 as a FREEBY to drive the uptake of Win O/S and once installed will FORCE folks onto a SUBS MODEL for what MS is now calling a "service" ...
From what I can find out .. MS extended support for Win8.1 Pro 64bit is out to 2023 ... so I have time to ponder my next move.
