Sorry Boatboy ,I was tongue in cheek re renting Windows but it is the case that you cannot buy a copy of Windows as they will only give you a licence to use the copy you have on your pc and you will never own it.
It may be distasteful but it is a practice that is used by other software companies as well which is a small part of the reason I do not use them.
