Anything that works for W8 should work with windows 10 (and even windows 7). I guess as the hardware improves the software has to improve in order to make the most of it. For example the move to a 64bit operating system will let you use more than 2gb of ram which is important for speed. But yeah, I know what you mean, there are plenty of features in Windows 8 which are (IMO) simply there as a means to extract money or track your every move. I'd be VERY doubtful that MS hasn't put an NSA backdoor in there somewhere despite the denials. Linux is OK for basic computing if you get sick of MS, takes a bit of googling to set it up but once it's going it tends to stay going. Not so good for gaming of course (but getting better).
