There is a reported build-up of Turkish troops just across the Syrian border at Tall Abyad (Gire Spi).
As posted, there the is an Iran/Turkey land grab in progress. Observers should not think that either of these countries will be at all satisfied until they have completely calved Syria in two. Securing one region to the point of stalemate will only push their tussle elsewhere.
Is the latest activity at Tall Abyad just manoeuvres or bluff or something else? I don't know. Will Turkey seek to act while Trump is heavily distracted? How will the French troops in this region respond to external aggression? How would the USAF respond to any US troops under fire (albeit a small number of them)? Will Trump completely ignore any forthcoming aggression or will his temper and response be explosive (literally)? I don't know.
Will Turkey get away with further aggression into North Syria? Militarily it certainly could (at a cost) but the follow on economic sanctions from the EU and US would with absolute certainty cripple the country and its leadership sponsors.
All I know is that madness now reigns in several headquarters, thus feeding the strength and popularity of hardliners and sociopaths in the midst of it all. Will it ever end?
