I wonder if the pending deal was inked in lira, USD or AUD? if it was the latter two its a big win, if not our financial wings have possibly been clipped. Lets hope there was a fixed exchange rate clause if it was the former.
On the upside, solar in Turkey is going to be huge, form 1.6 GW to a pessimistic 6 to a far more likely 30 GW in the next 8 years, even this higher figure could be an underestimate:
This will have to happen if Turkey is to modernise because with solar there is no need to construct expensive national grids, just local ones. And large scale solar is already half the price of wind to construct:
and GSL technology will halve the price of solar again. Also Turkey enacted its second Renewable Energy Law, namely Law No. 6094 mandating the use of Renewable Energy Resources for the Generation of Electrical Energy, so the government is actively encouraging expansion and the utilisation of solar energy for electricity generation.
So currently, Turkey spends USD 55 billion per year for external energy sources - that was before the rial prostrated itself, bowing down low with the return to Sultan rule. And why not? China now has its self anointed Emperor, Russia it's Czar, Iran its Ayatollah and USA its golden haired boy, known to some as the greatest mirror mirror whisperer of them all. So now the Lira has bowed down in awe, they will now be even more desperate to manufacture locally to save rapidly dwindling foreign currency reserves. Along these lines they are already constructing silicon solar manufacturing plants.
Erdogan, perhaps mimicking Trumps penchant for nepotism but with no fossil fuels, will no doubt encourage relatives to plunge their sticky fingers in the huge solar pie to help to feed the growing family.
So knowing how crucial solar technology is and thus already envisaging the enormous potential in employing perovskite technology - and thanks to RC and the team, they chose GSL as the partner most likely to lead to fast practical implementation. After all, this technology will both halve both the capital and KW cost of solar whilst wind costs will basically stay the same, so in reality many turbines won't get built except in specific locations where wind reliably blows at night.
So IMHO, of course they will conclude the deal and gobble up the money ... after all, they can't afford not too.
... and surely governments or companies in other countries, in similar circumstances, which distressingly, is pretty much most of the world, will soon come to the same conclusion.
