this story has been around for ages and is totally misleading. Angela McDonald did a great article in the Fin Review a few months ago that showed Japanese households paying much more. The other thing is that Japanese importers commit to 20 year big take-off contracts. Our power generators do not . Their contracts are generally shorter and for smaller amounts .
Another thing is comparing the royalties paid to Qatar to our taxes gathered here. The plants in Qatar have been in for years and were built by cheap labor . Our plants are still going in and have been very expensive/over budget, which provides big tax write offs. Most of our tax revenue comes from corporate tax (eventually). LNG plants built in Australia cost two and a half times more than in the US.
Anyway I wouldn't trust Aust Business Insider . I used to read the US version but it seems that I am diverted to the Aust version. Neither version has much credibility any more.
