A share buyback can also mean the company has run out of ideas, talent or opportunity and cant find a way of generating superior returns on the funds available. A share buyback is very often considered fairly negatively. Growth companies almost never buy shares back - they are more likely to embark on a capital raising to fund growth. A share buyback is sort of the opposite of a cap raising.

I believe you have no finance backgrounds.
A share buyback can also mean the company has run out of ideas, talent or opportunity and cant find a way of generating superior returns on the funds available. ???????

Let me tell you what happen after share buybacks.
Say the company have 1000 dollars share with 100 dollars profit annual profit. The EPS is 10 cents. If the company invest this 100 dollars to another company and this company generates 9% profit a year. Suppose the company continues making 100 dollar a year. One year after, the profit for the company is 109 dollar with EPS 10.9 cents.

Suppose the company pay out this as dividend, Share holder will receive 11 cents. But if the company do a share buy back, then there will be 900 dollar outstanding share and if the company still earns 100 dollar, it generate 11.1 cents for each share.

It's easy to see which way is better off. I agree that a growth or new company with little cash will use all the money for development, but it's not true for a company with a lot of cash and substain growth. This is always a signal that the company believe in itself. I am not persuading you buying, but please read books before u comment.
