A share buyback can also mean the company has run out of ideas, talent or opportunity and cant find a way of generating superior returns on the funds available. A share buyback is very often considered fairly negatively. Growth companies almost never buy shares back - they are more likely to embark on a capital raising to fund growth. A share buyback is sort of the opposite of a cap raising.
Just my opinion for what its worth.
