I have some experience at distributorships, not in pharma. The challenge for a manufacturer is to get to the bottom of the reason a company enters into a distribution agreement. There are many reasons - as an example - and I have no idea if this applies to SPL and its agreements so it is just a thought. and what I might do, not what any one else might do. If I were a pharma with competitive (confidential) products in the development pipeline and advancing to the patent stage and then on to the FDA approval stage I'd be looking to run a blocking move on any likely competitors. Considering the huge revenue sums involved in being first in a market I could spend a lot on my blocking move. Why not enter into exclusive distribution agreements with any company I see as a threat - it would stop them directly promoting their unique product while I sat on it finding lots of reasons for delay. The time between a contract of this type and the manufacturer's ability to cancel it and take over their own distribution would be long, and having regard to gains I might make if my own product advances to the market my cost would be small.  I truly hope I'm miles off reality here and everyone is going flat stick to get "our" products to market and income.
