That's one opinion, and one with some weight, given Buffett's success. But its not one that he actually lived by. He has owned many companies that didn't make it 50 years, Kodak being one example, but there are many others. No doubt he projected, but incorrectly. The trick is, of course, recognising when to divest.
CAB owes me nothing, so all I am betting is opportunity cost. The recent uplift in SP is being profitable for me - but for how long? Who really knows, but I can predict, all else being equal, that I will not be owning it in 5 year's time, let alone 50!
