2011 could be the year when Nickel will go to US$24/lb again. It seems that traders are realising that demand for nickel is picking up again. Even third world countries are starting to realise that its better to use stainless steel in construction rather than having to replace or continually paint lesser quality steel.
Nickel US$22,206/t vs US$21,925/t yesterday ? Metal Bulletin reports that a number of traders and consumers of nickel have started negotiations for 2011 volumes well ahead of the normal October negotiation period.
That buyers are starting negotiations now is an indication of concerns over availability for 2011. Nickel is a volatile metal and should a shortage evolve, then prices can escalate rapidly.
