"A bit of world termoil and they will be flocking back in here, its a great safe haven stock ."
@Singed fingers,
TLS's share price is at a 5-year low, and has spent only 3 out of its 20 years of listed life at levels lower than today.
It has just cut its dividend by 30% and, worse, I see that some analysts have got earnings contracting every year as far as they are able to forecast (Macquarie, who counts Telstra as one of its corporate clients, forecasts TLS's earnings falling by 19% in FY2018, 12% in FY2019 and 10% in FY2020).
And the industry in which Telstra operates - which is notoriously competitive - seems to be on the cusp somewhat of a price war, judging by both the strategic utterances, as well as the actions, of some of the Telstra's competitors.
That's not exactly the backdrop of a "great safe haven", to my way of thinking.
On the contrary, it's more like the stuff of seriously tempestuous storms from which one should run as far away as possible.
