    Ummmm, yes. Cables work economically. Single outlay, long life, low maintenance, instantaneous, negligible loss and no unions shutting down the flow of electrons because they want a fair go.

    If cables are anything but the definition of the most economical energy transport, we would be getting morning battery deliveries by horse and cart deliveries each day.

    Next we'll be sending solar panels and a VFRB to space to collect sunlight, fly it back to Earth and microwave it down. Stop saying this stuff, I can feel brain cells dying each time I read it to see if you are actually talking about transporting energy.

    Ships are slow, energy inefficient, have people on board, need high maintenance, and sink. Stop it.

    Microwave is an answer people have pitched, but kind of scary and if wind farms kill birds imagine what a massive point to point, metre wide microwave beam over a sea would do.
