I came to SLV via merger/takeover of SXM (aka PPD) a small platinum group explorer.
SLV has cashflow by recovering metals from tailings dams and from mine waste. They now have jvs with Jubilee Platinum (JLP, listed in Jo'burg and London's AIM and has a fairly active bulletin board on www.iii.co.uk) for mining and smelting. It's a bit unclear if all of SLV's operations will combine with JLP, I think they do.
Besides treating tailings and mine waste the jv is advancing plans to mine in their own right. Metals will be Pt, Pd, Ni, Cu if everything goes to plan. Ferrochrome could be in the mix as well, but it's as much problem as asset metalurgically.
I'm hanging-in because the present sp has me slightly underwater and I think takeover activity in the junior Pt miners will heat up. Sovereign risk in South Africa has eased of late but can't be ignored. My opinion only.
