Finally some rain over here. The main worry was canola. The stuff that was up here has managed to survive after 30 days without anything more than 1.5mm and coming up with around 25mm! Unbelievable! There are others that had the canola up on 8-10mm and it didn't make it. The stuff sown into drying soil?? It is late for any of the broadleaf crops that are not up and there are plenty of areas where they are not up. Be a waiting game before resowing options assessed.

The State's lupin crop will be a fruitless exercise this year. Late, crappy start etc. Protein premiums should emerge as the sheep boys are carrying and feeding rather than dumping stock.

Pastures are a very sore sight. Going to be a month before any significant contribution to the feed equation.

Malt barley is the one to watch. Not much was out of the ground before the dry hit and now that puts some of the preferred malt varieties like Baudin well and truly outside of the safe malt sowing window.

Wheat, a bit out of the ground but there is still plenty of time for good yield potential.
