WA will be getting a net feed in tariff for residential systems.

The question is how 'net' will it be?
Net total as credit on power bill (kWhr basis) with no cash payment for excess production?
Net total paid out at residential rate (24c/kWhr in July) or at wholesale rate (roughly 4c/kWhr)
Net total paid at time of generation x time of use tariff (from about 6c/kWhr at night to 30c/kWhr during evening peak)?

Liberal government history in WA has been to support 'private industry' such as Ric Stowe's failing coal mines using public money.

Paying peasants to produce distributed power to save on distribution infrastructure and peaking power plants would go against the WA government model of using soveriegn perogative to support select privately held corporations.

"A Feed-in Tariff for Residential Renewable Energy Systems

A residential net feed-in tariff scheme is scheduled to be introduced in Western Australia from 1 July 2010. The net tariff will be paid on all excess electricity exported to the grid from small-scale household renewable energy systems.

The Office of Energy invited stakeholders, through the release of the Western Australian Feed-in Tariff Discussion Paper, to provide input to developing design features of the proposed net feed-in tariff scheme for Western Australia. The consultation period commenced on 23 October and closed on 20 November 2009.

The Office of Energy would like to thank all respondents for their valued comments. In total, 74 submissions were received through this process. A summary of the submissions received can be found here.

Stakeholder submissions will inform the development of the preferred scheme design.
