I sold some yesterday and sold the remaining 21,200 I held on open today at 75c.
That entitles me to a dividend of $11,660 and franking credits of $4,997 .
Have held JRL for about 30 days.
I can not receive franking credits on any other stock I hold in 2010/2011 without going over the small shareholder exemption level of $5k (with respect to the 45 day holding period rule for franking credits).
My understanding is that if I do I will lose the $4997 franking credits.
A solution would be to trade in a different entity...such as a PTY LTD entity. I could do this with Commsec although am not too keen on their fees on margin loans (at $10 for each and every transaction including funds transfer in addition to brokerage).
