I'm sure I heard that AKP achieved lowering of costs from $50 per chip to $10 per chip (since their proof of concept), and were looking at reducing that cost further. Perhaps with simplifying the wafer production they have taken out a few steps thereby making the chip manufacture cheaper AND quicker. I think even at $10 per chip given its level of performance the up-take would still be there, purely based on the performance of the chip alone.
With respect to throughput, I haven't got the slightest concern in that regard. AKP will not have any issues signing up additional fabrication companies to meet demand. I think perhaps we're investing our energy into the exercise of cost per chip and rate of production far too prematurely when there's still a lot of work to be done.
