In my opinion most of the trading at the moment is being controlled by broker traders. They are the ones with the capacity to do unmarketable parcels which they run as programmed bots. When it's on you'll usually see an order such as your 1 share trade ticking through the depth until it
meets a buyer or seller depending on which way they're going.
It's happening on both sides but basically the long term interest is quite thin right now which allows for some serious volatility through the depth and that's a good chance for them to push it around for easy short term gains.
