What's the difference between an olive tree and a pine tree?
It's interesting that the change in policy is justified by claiming that agri-MIS investments are passive and therefore investors/growers are not carrying on a business in order to qualify for up-front tax deductions.
Surely growing pine or eucalypt trees is more passive than olive or almond trees? So why doesn't this announcement apply to all MIS investments?
Coz plantations are seen as green investments as the trees store carbon, and if the government ripped the heart out of plantations as they are doing to the almond, olives, etc industries then there would be a massive outcry from not just the business/investment community but from the general public due to the perceived impact on global warming issues.
