to add to your comments, Westpac made the announcement more than 2 &1/2 months after the main transactions took place.
If you check the transaction history attached to the announcement, you'll notice that 6.5M shares were offloaded on 2/8/07 and 1.6M shares on 24/8/07.
Aren't substantial shareholding movements required to be ammounced within 5 trading days? Of course, this was less than 1% and it doesn't have to be announced at all. So Westpac can do that whenever they like or when it suits them.
