We are also considering possibilities of developing further power plants, which include renewable power generation
facilities as well as further developing highly efficient gas-fuelled power plants consistent with our existing power
operations, either on a standalone basis or in conjunction with the development of an LNG facility.

A recent presentation by Energy World Corporation revealed that Talisman Energy and its partners in Papua New Guinea’s Western Province might seek to develop at least a 2 million tonnes per annum modular LNG terminal on Parama Island southeast of the Fly River delta...

    ...

Horizon has previously flagged that a floating LNG development could even be considered but a presentation by EWC executive director Brian Allen at the CLSA Investors Forum in Hong Kong this week indicates that modular LNG is a favoured option.

On one of the EWC-announced presentation slides which are all labelled “strictly confidential”, the Parama Island LNG project is targeting initial capacity of 2Mtpa with a flagged expansion to 5Mtpa.

EWC said this modular LNG terminal would be developed in conjunction with a deep water port and power station.

Talisman wasn’t mentioned but the map on this slide marks out a pipeline route which starts from the gas fields in licences held by Talisman, Horizon and other Western Province players.

THE natural gas from the Stanley gas field will generate power for regional mining operations and rural electrification in Western, Horizon Oil says.
Horizon revealed this yesterday in Port Moresby following the approval of the Stanley project development licence application by Environment and Conservation Minister John Pundari.
“We are very pleased to have received ministerial approval in Principle for the Stanley Gas Project which represents an important milestone in the regulatory approval process.
Condensate from the Stanley gas field is expected to be sold to the Napanapa refinery, with the high diesel yielding condensate enhancing PNG’s energy independence.
Conversion by Ok Tedi Mining Ltd (OTML) to gas-fired power, displacing expensive diesel-fired generators could bring about estimated savings in energy costs to Ok Tedi of about A$1 billion (K2.1 billion) over 20 years.
