    I had originally heard that it was around 90km – however, realistically there would be a number of spurs built, as the area is quite large, and there would be likely a number of +20Mt deposits. There would also be a number a sidings for trains to pass. I would be very surprised if the rail was eventually less than 180km.

    This, however, is not really an issue for a project the size of this. In consequential actually…

    I do note, however, that the main cost to rail construction for FMG was the Chichester Ranges, due to the number of bridges, etc. I suspect the Robertson Ranges will provide a similar financial challenge for GIR (or whoever owns them by then).

    Do note that it may be just as quick to send the iron ore via Newman and access BHP’s line – similar distance. But due the enormous volumes being sent on that line, I suggest that this would be a virtual impossibility.

    Mind you, if this does turn out to be an enormous project (i.e. 200Mt), then the cost of infrastructure will not be much of an issue at all…
