Analysts of the game are saying Clarkson can now be regarded as one the all time great coaches, they are also critical of Lyon's coaching ability. If Freo had of won the grand final, those same critics would be calling for Clarkson to be sacked from the Hawks and hailing Lyon as the messiah of coaches and claiming his game plan to be the new standard for AFL. Amazing what a couple of kicks can do to someones reputation. The fact is 2 of the Grand finals Lyon has coached came down to under 3 kicks. If you were to watch the game a couple of times that could be easily made up by an unlucky bounce going your way, easy shots at goal not missed, umpiring decisions etc. I have no doubt Lyon's skills as a coach got Freo to the Grand final. Hawks deserved the win but I feel the teams were evenly matched and the game could have genuinely gone either way. Look where Freo was prior to Ross and look where Saints are after Ross left. He must be doing something right.
