With hindsight, the former residents of Fukushima would definitely have preferred solar energy. The last report I read from the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) suggested the radioactive cleanup is going to take 40 years or more. The prolific volumes of high-level waste leeching into the sea from the nuclear plant is absolutely disgusting. And what do you suppose they're planning to do with all the radioactive waste water stored in all those external tanks on the site (they're running out of room).....dump lots of it into the sea. How smart is that!

The new containment structure over Chernobyl reactor 4 is looking good. The European authorities suggest it might take a few decades to extract the most radioactive debris from the plant: they haven't yet decided where to put the debris to prevent it from leeching into the environment: plutonium 239 is poisonous for a least 24,000 years & it only takes a tiny amount to have a catastrophic effect on human health. Then there's all the Cesium 137 pollutants as well as all the other stuff (graphite moderator blocks), spent fuel rods etc...it ends up being a pretty long list of toxic garbage.

    Then there's Sellafield B30:

The premise that nuclear energy is clean is a total myth: a smoke 'n' mirrors illusion. Nuclear waste is never clean & neither are the operations that produces the waste.

Other forms of energy besides solar are possible: they need time to be developed.

In the meantime, encourage people to sensibly plan for smaller family sizes in the present & future i.e. 0, 1 or 2 children per family to help reduce the pressure on resource use. Find creative ways to develop more efficient & friendly solar power, wind power & energy storage systems.

As far as resources use goes: use, recycle, re-use & for goodness sake.....leave the uranium in the ground!
