Yes, BHP provided $35m to WEC through convertible notes back in 2007 (http://www.whiteenergyco.com/investor/asx-announcements/bhp-billiton-convertible-fundi.php) but after conversion they sold their shares in 2010 since they were said to be focussing on coking coal.
Interestingly their South African subsidiary now seems to be interested in BCB in order to briquette their coal fines.
The market is stupid and can never predict the viability of whatever technology. The value of BCB depends on too many factors which are incalculable at this time and things won't clear up before there's a new plant up and running which won't happen before 2014, I think.
