Got rid of the rodent promptly went to Swans Plumbing and purchased a $500 filter unit that's supposed to filter everything. Wife went straight to town and bought 50 litres drinking water. Big day all round. I think the bugger got in through the overflow pipes which weren't sealed and flow straight into a paddock so I have put flap valves on those as well.

I'll add that to my list of jobs.
It's only a 50mm ID pipe to the ground from the main tank but mice might be able to do the 2m vertical climb?
