Here's a crazy out of left field concept for a Monday morning.
Western Australia has 1/3 of the coastal length of all of Oz. (12600 km), and 1/3 the land area. That's including Tassie.
The population is also distributed in a more sea-centric manner than any other state (i.e. proximity of the populations to the coastline, despite the eastern states having greater numbers of people).
It therefore has more solar and wave energy for capture than any other state per capita, and certainly more capacity for expansion if it can solve the water distribution problem to the north.
So, if California go announce that it will be 50 % renewable, what is stopping WA becoming the first state or territory in the entire world to become 100 % renewable ?
