Here's my quick comparison of Coburn vs Thunderbird at full production from a production / revenue point of view. Coburn numbers come from their "2013 Optimisation" report and Thunderbird from the most recent Hartley's 27 Jul '18 Broker Report.
Zircon : 49kt (C) vs 53kt (T)
Zircon Conc : okt (C) vs 46kt (T)
Ilmenite : 109kt (C) vs 292kt (T)
Hyti : 23kt (C) vs 10 (T)
Magnetite : 0kt (C) vs 191kt (T)
Avg Sale Price : US$ 610/tn (C) vs US$320/tn (T)
Annual Revenue : US$ 110m pa (C) vs US$ 180m pa (T)
The one key difference for me is Coburn's production will literally be trucked pasted the front door of Iluka's MSP in Geraldton to be put on a boat, whereas Thunderbird is in the middle of nowhere. Gunson knocked on Iluka's door several times in the past, but the timing wasn't right because Iluka had both the Murray Basin and Eucla Basin deposits. However, now that the Murray Basin has closed and Eucla reserves are declining, maybe the timing for a sale of Coburn to Iluka is better this time ?
