Yeah 5-4 is probably way under what is in the pipeline. I only commented on the ones I know about (I forget the names off hand although koodaietri is one, the other was the fmg in the paper the other day), they are probably the same as the 5 ones you mentioned. I know that a bunch were shelved in 2012 along with the BHP Outer Harbour - I think that expansion was going to add another 7 car dumpers at Port hedland. I don't think the mines that were shelved are the ones being done now.
Yeah things are definitely picking up. Hopefully things continue. I'm out of that industry loop atm (apart from chatting to mates) and it would be good to get back onto a project. Be nice to milk that fat cash cow for a bit more. Also worth noting - Port Hedland and Karratha real estate market has stabilised somewhat and will hopefully improve a little in the coming couple of years.
Be good to see more of the miners implement alternative energy instead of relying primarily on diesel or gas generation. Some NPI sites would be good candidates for alternative generation and batteries. Currently the rail networks rely on solar to manage the signalling so thats a start, but not enough.
