WA industry urged to get behind uranium mining
Thursday August 11, 2005, 10:34 am
A Canadian miner has urged the WA mineral industry to promote the benefits of uranium mining.
Southern Cross Resources, which has a uranium project in South Australia, has been highlighting the benefits of the uranium market at this years Diggers and Dealers mining forum in Kalgoorlie.
There are 25 known uranium deposits in WA, but mining is banned.
Southern Cross chief executive Mark Wheatley says he appreciates the difficulties, but the industry in WA needs to be more proactive.
"Given the price increases of late I think there's renewed interest from the miners to make money from the uranium business and I think we can get better at helping the politician and the mums and dads understand the risks and rewards of uranium mining as opposed to other forms of power generation," he said.
