Big call to suggest they are going to close down the entire U industry in Australia.
Everyone has to make their own risk assessment ,I guess.
No need to give it a lot of thought if you don't hold any shares.
Thanks for the heads up though.

Greens outdated on uranium: miners September 14, 2010 - 2:14

    AAP

The Greens' bid to secure a national ban on uranium mining is driven by outdated ideology and a disregard for regional jobs and investment, a key mining lobby group says.

Greens nuclear spokesman Scott Ludlam says his party will use its power to try to stop planned uranium mines, phase out three existing mines as soon as possible and halt exports.

But Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia chief executive Reg Howard-Smith says emerging uranium projects could deliver thousands of jobs and boost regional economies and investment.

Advertisement: Story continues below"In the last financial year, more than $55 million was spent by companies exploring for uranium in Western Australia, adding another string to the bow of WA's resource sector.

"If just one mine results, it will mean hundreds of new jobs," Mr Howard-Smith said on Tuesday.

He said it was time the Greens recognised the environmental and socio-economic benefits of the industry.

Federal Resources Minister Martin Ferguson said the Greens' opposition to uranium mining was creating uncertainty around the industry.

He said uranium mining was a "fact of life" and Australia only exported uranium to countries it had a bilateral agreement with, guaranteeing it was used safely for peaceful purposes.

WA Premier Colin Barnett said the only way the Greens could play a role in stopping uranium mining was to convince the federal government to ban the export of uranium.

But uranium was a rapidly growing mining sector for Australia, which probably had the largest reserves in the world and was the second or third largest producer, the premier told ABC Radio.

"I understand many people have a philosophical objection to uranium but if the world, particularly the developing world is to have clean, low-emission energy for health, education, living standards, then nuclear's going to play a bigger role."

Mr Barnett said most developed countries got about 20 per cent of their energy from nuclear power while India and China wereonly at three per cent, "so clearly the industry's going to grow".
