Vodafone has begun testing its 4G network in Western Sydney ahead of its expected launch later this year.

Taking to the company’s blog, Vodafone’s 4G program manager Allen Didovic said the expected “super fast” network should be able to clock download speeds of up to 67Mbps and upload speeds of up to 30Mbps.

Mr Didovic did clarify however that this service was operating in a test environment, indicating that the speeds would be the theoretical maximum rather than the norm consumers would experience when the network is launched.

“On Vodafone 4G, we’re expecting actual speeds between 2-40Mbp,” he said.

Mr Didovic added that the tests would continue around the country over the next couple weeks.

“As we power up more 4G sites around Australia, we’ll be conducting thousands of tests just like this to ensure Vodafone’s 4G network will not just hum, it will sing.”
