Here's a precis of an analysis of the talks.

NK wanted 5 * 2016 sanctions removed.  They were not within POTUS' power to remove (UN sanctions, not Exec Orders)

NK walked out as POTUS couldn't agree to what Kim wanted, even if POTUS wanted to.

The analysis was by a Dr Van Jackson.  He was part of the Obama administration & the interview was on Planet America so I expect the standard level of source ridicule.
