Victorian piggery put in swine flu quarantine

A PIGGERY in Victoria's north has been placed in quarantine after returning positive tests for swine flu.
The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) implemented strict biosecurity measures and sent vets to investigate after being told on Monday that pigs at the Goulburn Valley property were not eating.
The virus was nothing for people to worry about in terms of what they ate, Victorian Agriculture Minister Joe Helper said.
"While tests have confirmed the presence of Influenza A H1 at the piggery, it is important to stress that this is not a human health issue and that national and international food authorities continue to advise that pork and pork products are safe to eat,'' he said.
