"That aside, I reckon HIL are going to report quite a nasty loss for the first half."

Ocker, if its not a nasty loss for the 1st half, there sure is significant underperformance in the business that they retained, being the HBT business. "See below from CEOs announcement"
The benefit for HIL shareholders can only be a 'one off financial benefit for 2017fy if HHL has been sold'.
Regardless of what business they choose to be in, they must stop "underperforming" !!

HIL, have presented this year as being their growth year, as they have finished with "back to basics", yet once again the HBT business is underperforming.

HIL, have presented they expect to grow in one of their recent presentations, the trouble is its great having presentations but there was no detailed analysis in their presentation as to how they expect to grow.

Its great just increasing numbers, but what are their strategies? Questions need to be asked..
How big is their market? How much of that market can they get? How are they going to get it? Do they now have the right people? Do they have the right suppliers? Do they understand their markets? Is the opposition securing the business? How do they win it back?
Are they getting smashed on margins chasing business? How are they going to lift margins?
Have they finished executing top staff?
Are the heads of business knowledgeable enough? Are they employing the right people underneath?

FROM THE CEO, "The benefits of the HHL transition from Woolworths to AMES will result in an improvement in Hills’ EBITDA for the first half of FY17 over the first half of FY16 and will more than offset weaker trading results from our Hills Building Technologies (HBT) business. "
"Even with an improved second quarter for the HBT business this has not made up for the underperformance of the HBT business in the first quarter of FY17 as outlined at our AGM in November," he said. "

As I have been saying, here comes 26 cents!!

    Cheers
