Newcrest has some 65Moz of reserves and they produce 2.5Moz while Northern Star has around 9Moz reserves and produces 0.9Moz. NST is a better converter of reserves into free cash flow compared to Newcrest. Newcrest made some hefty acquisitions in the past decade and has been paying for it with still some $3 billion of debt while NST has been able to acquire at the bottom of the market cycle. Their cash balance is healthy and debt is repaid quickly.
In my view, NST is run very prudently and they seem to signal market bottoms when they start buying mines from other companies.
Welcome to the gold mining space and all the best with your foray!
