We have had long and arduous conversations over the years concerning the relative control of local Syrians, civilian Syrian PYD politicians and the PKK hardliners from over the border.

We both noted the divergence between the local administration in Afrin vs. the military command.

What we also see is a mindset of war that will be present in all Syrian groups after all that has happened.  The abnormal is normal pragmatism for many.

There was a way forward, which I promoted but that has been scuttled (for the time being) following Afrin.  Perhaps the initial challenge is to get all secular oriented groups to live up to their charters and constitutions but that won't be easy.
