I am wondering whether any company considering a takeover of APA would look very closely towards the upcoming election?
It could mean changes to both capital gains and also franking credits?
If capital gains are taxed differently for the worse, then any contender thinking of a takeover would surely want to get a takeover bedded down before the rules change, if they wait until after they change then there is a possibility that some may vote against a takeover, as for the franking credits, well we have had some of late, but I reckon APA would revert back to no franking and just pay a slightly higher dividend to compensate for the loss of franking, that way the government doesn't get quite as much in their greedy hands IMHO.
